When you are half French and half Spanish, good taste for food runs inevitably in your blood. At least, that’s what I like to think ! I’ve lived my entire life in France, but each year I usually go to Spain with my family. I can tell you that there was nothing better than sharing delicious tapas in a convivial atmosphere and having a great time all together.
In Barcelona, there are so many places and restaurants where you can go and immerse yourself in the Spanish and Catalan culture. Thanks to my previous trips, I had time to try a fair amount of restaurants. From bodegas to tabernas, chiringuitos or cervecerias… I know what I’m talking about guys ! If for your next holidays you don’t want to be stuck in a low quality tourist restaurant, you can get a bit of inspiration right here with my top 6 best restaurants in Barcelona.
The top 6 best restaurants in Barcelona
La Ciutat Condal
One word : jaw-dropping ! I have discovered this restaurant when I was on holidays with my family and since then, I go back everytime I’m in Barcelona. There are no words to describe the food quality that you’ll get there. Each dish is literally exquisite. And you know what ? That’s not the best part ! The value for money is unbelievable in this restaurant; get tapas from 1.45€ to 9€ each.
You should definitely try a good platter of charcuteria and queso as well as huevos estrellados and langostinos, you’ll love it !
This restaurant is getting more and more popular, so I would advise to make reservations in advance, otherwise you will have to wait between 20 minutes and 1 hour for a table.
Address: Rambla de Catalunya, 18
La Cerveceria Calatana
La Cerveceria Catalana is basically the same as Ciutat Condal except that the restaurant is a bit more fancy. The menus are similar since the owner is the same for the two restaurants. I would say that la Cerveceria Catalana is more famous than its little sister. That’s why you will always see a line in front of the restaurant. A reservation is thus mandatory ! But trust me, the restaurant setting is fantastic. If you go there, you will be sure to get tasty food, a great service and a good price.
Address : Carrer de Mallorca, 236
This restaurant is one of the most recommended tapas restaurants of Barcelona. If you want to spend a nice evening, in a top of the range place and eat gourmet Spanish food, then this is your address. I recommend sitting at the bar to enjoy your meal, this way you’ll be experiencing the real Spanish eating habits.
In this restaurant, you can get freshly made montaditos, seafood and savory Catalan tapas, but the price is a bit higher than the previous restaurants I talked about. For instance, I wouldn’t go to this place every day, otherwise it would be too expensive, but going once during your trip is totally feasible. And it’s a great place to bring your partner for a pleasant evening.
Address: Carrer de Muntaner, 171
This restaurant was actually a total discovery as I was just walking around in the city and decided to stop for lunch. The location is central, near las Ramblas and Plaza Reial, this way if you get hungry while visiting Barcelona’s most iconic sights, you know where to go. From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look like much, but I can assure you that you will love the food. I especially recommend the nachos, hummus, tortilla and salmorejo. They’re a killer ! Also, try the sangria, you won’t be disappointed ! Prices are also quite fair to be honest…
Address: Carrer d’Avinyó, 25
Another really cool address that I loved going to. You would be missing out if you didn’t try this place. Shrimps, squids, huevos cabreaos, bacalao, sirloin steak with foie gras, pimientos padron… Simply mouth watering ! These dishes are perfectly executed and in my opinion they do the job for a nice lunch or dinner in town. It’s one of the first restaurants I discovered in Barcelona and since that time the quality hasn’t changed a bit. If you are a seafood lover like me, you will literally fall in love with this place and their super fresh products.
Address: Carrer d’Aribau, 23
You must probably know this place in Barcelona since it’s one of the most popular in the city. I couldn’t talk about restaurants and food in Barcelona, without mentioning this really cool market. To me there’s nothing better than enjoying tapas in this colorful, lively and unique place in Barcelona. There, you can buy juices, charcuteria, cheese, fresh fish, chocolates and pretty much everything you want. I usually go there if I want to buy something on the go like a smoothie or cones filled with jamon iberico. And since it’s right next to the Ramblas, you can easily stop for a little break and continue your visit afterwards.
Inside the market, you will also find the cutest tapas bars. Don’t hesitate to brave the crowded alleys filled with tourists and locals, to find at the end of the market and on the corners these awesome little places. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll be able to find a seat at the countertops and look at the spectacular local food while waiting for your meal. Among those tapas bars, I can recommend Bar Central and Pinoxto which are just amazing.
Address: La Rambla, 91
If you go to one of thoses places next time you visit Barcelona, give me your impressions ! I would love to hear what you thought of them. And if you also have other cool addresses, feel free to leave a comment and I will pass-by next time I’m in Barcelona !
